Looking For Alaska Adaptation Coming to Hulu

By May 11, 2018Adaptations, News

John Green is already familiar with adaptations of his work, The Fault in our Stars was one of the biggest movies of its day but his debut novel, Looking for Alaska didn’t garner the same interest from movie companies. We’re not sure why as it’s massively popular with readers, but the novel is about to get its dues in the form of a Hulu adaptation!

Deadline reports that Hulu is currently finalising a deal for an eight-episode limited series from Paramount television, bringing Miles ‘Pudge’ Halter and Alaska Young to life on the screen.

The eight part show will be produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire. Schwartz is said to have been attempting to bring Looking for Alaska to the television for thirteen years after falling in love with the novel in 2005 when he was handed an unpublished manuscript for what would become Green’s debut. Since then there have been several project ideas and incarnations, but now it seems the show is finally coming to fruition.

Looking for Alaska follows the story of Miles ‘Pudge’ Halter who feels his whole life has been one big non-event. He heads off to the Culver Creek Boarding School determined to lead a more exciting existence and it’s here he meets Alaska Young, the gorgeous, clever and self destructive girl who steals his heart. After that nothing is ever the same.

The project is still in its early days so we’re unlikely to see anything on our screens until 2019, which does at least mean you have plenty of time to read the novel!
