Ayn Rand’s ‘The Fountainhead’ Is Heading to the Big Screen

By May 29, 2018Adaptations, News

The Fountainhead was the first novel written by the Russian-American writer and philosopher Ayn Rand and has since become one of her most famous books. The story follows a young architect named Howard Roark who designs modernist buildings but refuses to compromise to the architectural establishment that’s unwilling to accept his designs.

The Fountainhead is an exploration of individualism, architecture, and philosophy and fans will be interested to learn that a film adaptation of Rand’s book is now in the works. Zack Snyder, who is best known for making films based on graphic novels such as 300, Watchmen, and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, has announced that his next project will be bringing Rand’s famous book to the big screen.

When asked by a fan on Twitter what his next project will be, Snyder simply replied ‘Fountainhead’. It seems Snyder has had his mind on The Fountainhead for some time as, in 2016, he told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’ve always felt like The Fountainhead was such a thesis on the creative process and what it is to create something. Warner Bros. owns [Ayn Rand’s] script and I’ve just been working on that a little bit.”

It will be interesting to see how Snyder’s adaptation matches up to the book and we certainly look forward to seeing the final product. Given that the film is in the early stages of production, we don’t expect it will be released in 2018, or even next year. Here’s hoping it’s worth the wait.
