BBC to Adapt Little Women to a Mini-series

By July 7, 2017Adaptations, News, Television

Book lovers have really been spoiled for choice for quality adaptations in recent months and that trend is yet to continue as BBC One and Masterpiece for PBS announce that they are to adapt Little Women onto the small screen.

The classic novel by Louisa May Alcott has remained in print for many years and is loved by many, a 1994 movie adaptation was fairly well received but many readers love series because they allow the story to be strung out, staying truer to the book.

Filming hasn’t yet started on the series but we do know that the adaptation is from award-winning creator of Call the Midwife, Heidi Thomas and will be filmed as a three part mini-series.

Bafta award winning actor Emily Watson is set to play Marmee, newcomer Maya Hawke will take on wilful and adventurous Jo, Willa Fitzgerald will play Beth and Kathryn Newton will play youngest sister Amy. Also staring will be Angela Langsbury, Michael Gambon and other big names.

The show will be produced by Playground for BBC1 in co-production with Masterpiece on CBS. There’s no release date for the series yet and we’re thinking this will be one for 2018, giving you plenty of time to get it off the ever growing TBR and into the read pile!
