Caitlin Moran’s How to Build a Girl Coming to the Big Screen

By May 10, 2018Adaptations, News

If you haven’t already familiarised yourself with the work of Caitlin Moran we highly recommend you do so. The semi-autobiographical How to Build a Girl is one of the funniest, most touching, and relatable books I have ever read and finishing it made me feel like a more complete human being.

Moran captures the intricacies of being a girl/woman better than most living authors today and her wit shines through on every page. So when I read that How to Build a Girl was coming to the big screen, it was a very exciting moment.

We have a while to wait yet, filming stars in July so if you did want to read the novel first, you still have time to do so. This week we hear that Beanie Feldstein (above) of Ladybird fame will take the lead role, and we think she’ll be perfect.

The screenplay was written by Moran herself, along with John Niven and the movie has been rumbling towards the big screen since last 2014. Sales for the film are already underway at the Cannes Film Festival and all indications are for a 2019 release.

If you haven’t read How to Build a Girl, the semi-autobiographical novel tells the story of a young girl Johanna Morrigan who is brought up in Wolverhampton in the UK during the 1980s, moving to London in the 90s to become a music writer. It’s funny, touching and very relatable and if you’d like to read it before the movie releases you probably have plenty of time to do so yet.
