Hercule Poirot, the Belgium detective was created by Agatha Christie and featured in over 33 novels and 50 short stories between 1920 and 1975.
He is now household name and over the years has been played by over ten different men- now that list also includes American actor, John Malkovich.
The BBC has announced a new Hercule Poirot series produced in conjunction with Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited adaptation of The ABC Murders. The series will be first shown on BBC One.
John Malkovich has told the BBC:
“I’m honoured to have been asked to play Hercule Poirot. It’s a role that’s been played by a number of excellent actors, and I am enjoying the numerous challenges this part presents. I have great respect for Sarah Phelps’ screenplay and hope to do both she and Agatha Christie’s creation some measure of justice.”
If you’re excited to return to the magical world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, then you’ll be pleased to learn that the Roald Dahl Estate is teaming up with Puffin to publish a tie-in novelisation of the film, written by children’s author Sibéal Pounder. The novel will be released alongside the film’s debut on 15th December. As The Bookseller reports, Puffin publishing director, Ruth Knowles, said: “As the bestselling author of Bad Mermaids and Witch Wars series [Bloomsbury], Sibéal Pounder is an expert in crafting stories for young readers full of irreverent humour, charismatic characters and magic. Sibéal is the perfect voice to bring the story of the ‘Wonka’ movie to the page and we’re excited that families and young people will have the chance to enjoy the magic of ‘Wonka’ on screen and as a book this winter.” Read More
The source claims the show is being written by Sinead Daly, who has previously worked on the likes of Tell Me Lies, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Raised by Wolves, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and The Get Down. It’s still very early days for the show, and it is yet to be announced which platform or network it will air on, from Netflix to HBO, but the studio intends to shop the rights further into the project’s development. It is said the author of the books, Stephanie Meyer, will be involved in some capacity.

80s nostalgia is reaching its peak and companies seem to riding the wave of its increased popularity. It has been recently announced (but not confirmed) that Disney plan to create a reboot of the classic 80s movie A NeverEnding Story.
The original movie was released in 1984, inspired by the 1979 fantasy novel by Michael Ende. The movie only remade the first half of the book, with the second half released 6 years later with The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter.
This latest adaptation may, once again, be split into multiple parts but it has not yet been confirmed.
Originally published in 1929, All Quiet on the Western Front was written by World War I veteran Erich Maria Remarque. The book has since become a modern classic for its depiction of the extreme mental and physical stress experienced by German soldiers on the frontline. It also examines the detachment they feel as those who survive return to civilian life. A huge hit upon its publication, within the first 18 months, it had been translated into 22 languages and sold over 2.5 million copies. During the reign of the Nazis, the book was burned in their infamous book burning campaigns.
Those who have read and enjoyed the novel will be intrigued to learn that a film adaptation has been produced by Netflix, and the first trailer has been released, which you can check out below:
