Greta’s Gerwig’s Little Women – Official Trailer Release

By August 17, 2019Adaptations

Around Christmas last year, we first brought you the news that Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women was due for another film adaptation, this time by Ladybird director Greta Gerwig. This new adaptation stars Emma Watson as the eldest March sister, Meg, and it was she who first shared some behind the scenes images from the set.

Earlier this month, we were finally treated to an official first look at Gerwig’s March sisters; Emma Watson as Meg, Saoirse Ronan as Jo, Florence Pugh as Amy and Eliza Scanlen as Beth, with the release of images showing the cast in full costume on film locations. These snapshots also showed Meryl Streep as the formidable Aunt March and Timothée Chalamet as the playful Laurie. It was revealed that throughout filming, Jo and Laurie swap wardrobe items to blur the gender lines and play on the often-androgynous character of Jo, built by Alcott in her book.

Now, the official trailer for the latest adaptation of Little Women has been released and it seems clear that Gerwig has used her creative license to highlight the more feminist aspects of the story, in particular through Jo March who is heard saying, “Women they have minds and they have souls as well as just hearts… And they’ve got ambition. And they’ve got talent as well as just beauty. I’m so sick of people saying that love is just all a woman is fit for.”

Watch the new Little Women trailer now and get ready for the full film coming to US cinemas on Christmas Day, UK cinemas on Boxing Day and Australian cinemas in the New Year.
