Jeremy Irons Joins the Cast of the ‘Watchmen’ TV Show

By June 28, 2018Adaptations, News

Last Summer, it was reported that HBO was mulling over the idea of creating a TV show based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ groundbreaking graphic novel Watchmen. Progress went well and it was soon announced that David Lindelof, would serve as the showrunner.

As Deadline reports, a pilot episode is now in the works and it has been announced that veteran actor Jeremy Irons has been cast. It’s currently unknown which character he’ll be portraying, but he joins previously cast actors such as Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens and Andrew Howard.

The upcoming TV show will not be an adaptation of the graphic novel, but rather an original plot which fits into the Watchmen universe and intertwines with the story told in the novel. This isn’t the first time Irons will be playing a character from the DC universe. He currently plays Bruce Wayne/Batman’s butler, Alfred, in the DC superhero films and now he’ll be part of Watchmen.

Given how revered the original graphic novel is, there will no doubt be a great deal of interest, and pressure, for the upcoming series. As per usual when it comes to adaptations of his work, Moore is in no way involved.
