Netflix to adapt The Chronicles of Narnia

The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of seven books (The Magician’s Nephew, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Horse and His Boy, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair, and The Last Battle) by C.S. Lewis about a fictional world called Narnia. Most people will know The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe story well, the adventures of Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie through the Wardrobe into Narnia where they meet Mr Tumnus, the brave Lion – Aslan, and the enchantingly evil witch. However, less known are the books that follow this which introduce new characters including Prince Caspian, or the story of the Magician’s Nephew, which comes before Pevensie children’s arrival and is our first glimpse into the magical world of Narnia.

In exciting news, streaming service Netflix, have announced they will be developing a TV series and film project based on this brilliant children’s series. The series and films will be produced under a ‘multi-year’ agreement between Netflix and The C.S. Lewis Company and these productions mark the first time that the rights to all seven Chronicles of Narnia books have been held by one company.

Ted Sarandos the Chief Content Officer for Netflix stated, “C.S. Lewis’ beloved Chronicles of Narnia stories have resonated with generation of readers around the world. Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.”

Douglas Gresham, the stepson of C.S. Lewis adds, “It is wonderful to know that folks from all over are looking forward to seeing more of Narnia, and that the advances in production and distribution technology have made it possible for us to make Narnian adventures come to life all over the world. Netflix seems to be the very best medium with which the achieve this aim, and I am looking forward to working with them towards this goal.”
