Peter Jackson is “not involved at all” with Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series

Late last year, it was announced that Amazon had secured the rights to develop a television series based upon J.R.R Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. This caused much speculation among Tolkien fans, would the series be an entirely new take on the War of the Ring, or would it be connected to Peter Jackson’s film trilogy?

Reports began to circulate that Jackson was in talks with Amazon over the show and some speculated that he would serve as a producer for the show, after his lawyer, Peter Nelson, mentioned that he “recently helped start a dialogue” between Amazon and Jackson. However, during an interview with the French outlet Allocine, Jackson confirmed that he’s in no way connected to the show.

“I’m not involved at all in the Lord of the Rings series,” he said. “I understand how my name could come up, but there is nothing happening with me on this project.” Jackson also denied rumours that he had any intentions of directing a DC comic book film. “That’s not true. I had no discussions about that,” Jackson said. “I’m not a fan of comics, I’ve never read any, so I’m not particularly interested in adapting one for cinema. That’s not true at all. I’m not involved in any DC film or Lord of The Rings series but I’m ok with it, I have plenty other projects that keep me busy.”

Peter Jackson certainly is busy. December will see the release of his latest film, Mortal Engines, an adaptation of the book by Phillip Reeve. Jackson adapted the novel with his longtime collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who both worked on him with Lord of the Rings. Mortal Engines is set to be released on December 14.
