Reese Witherspoon brings us female led literary adaptations

By June 29, 2018Adaptations, News

Reese Witherspoon’s company Hello Sunshine was set up with the intention of producing and celebrating women in literature and film.

The company has brought us literary adaptations such as Gone Girl and Wild, and Big Little Lies for HBO. The next major project has been announced as Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman, with the announcement of the release coinciding with the US publication of the novel.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine was Reese’s Hello Sunshine Book Club pick for June 2017 and it soon became a popular Summer read among her book club members. The character of Eleanor seemed to connect with readers as her story unfolded, proving to be a multifaceted human who, despite hardships at times, stayed true to her perfectly-imperfect self. Gail Honeyman’s writing doesn’t just tell us a story but sweeps you up in it, and has you cringing, crying, and laughing along with your new friend, Eleanor.

Reese Witherspoon certainly recognised potential in the novel as she is said to be not only producing the film adaptation, but may be starring as Eleanor herself.

A perfect choice, don’t you agree?
