The Alienist Adaptation Goes Global on Netflix to Positive Reviews

By April 18, 2018Adaptations, News

It was last year we heard that Caleb Carr’s award winning novel, The Alienist was to be adapted for television, and season one of the TNT drama aired on January 21st. Now Netflix has acquired the international rights, which means we can all enjoy this fantastic drama and it’s well worth watching!

The crime novel by Caleb Carr is the first book in the Kreizler series and takes place in New York city in 1896. The Alienist was an international bestseller on release in 1994 and pretty soon Paramount Pictures picked up the film rights. Nothing came of that sale, but more recently the rights were moved over to its television platform and now the adaptation can be enjoyed worldwide.

The adaptation stars Daniel Bruhl, Luke Evans and Dakota Fanning as an ad hoc team investigating a serial killer who is murdering school children in 1890s New York.

Shown as a ten episode series it’s been well received by both American and international audiences with positive reviews on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes. The series has also been nominated for a Saturn Award, to be decided in June and is nominated for best action-thriller series, while star Dakota Fanning is nominated as best supporting actress.

With the series now on Netflix, you have a while to get watching so if you do want to read the book before you sit down and binge all ten episodes, you can do so now.
