Ian McEwan Hits the Big Screen With Three Adaptations

If you’re a fan of Ian’s McEwan’s work then you’re in for a treat in the coming weeks and months as we hear the news that three of his works have been adapted for the screen.

The adaptation of the 2007 novel, On Chesil Beach will release as a movie in early 2018 along with a movie adaptation of McEwan’s 2014 novel The Children Act. If that wasn’t enough to satisfy your McEwan addiction then this Autumn Benedict Cumberbatch will play the leading role in the BBC adaptation of McEwan’s 1987 novel The Child in Time.

McEwan wrote the screenplay for both On Chesil Beach and The Children Act and these movies are currently showing at world premiers at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival with release to the public expected in early 2018.

The Child in Time will be a slightly different adaptation as this is a series for the BBC and is the first project to be signed by Benedict Cumberbath’s production company SunnyMarch. Cumberbatch will play the leading role and the series is rumoured to air in the late Autumn.

Adaptations are big business right now and book fans are thrilled to see many of their favourite novels hit the big and small screens. This triple run of adaptations really is a testament to McEwan’s writing and if you’d like to read each novel before the adaptation, there’s probably still time.
