Michael Bond – Quotes from Deepest, Darkest Peru

By January 13, 2016October 13th, 2017Authors, Quotations

We all love Paddington Bear, best known character from creator Michael Bond.

Sent to England from Deepest, Darkest Peru by his Aunt Lucy, Paddington has a fondness for marmalade sandwiches and mischief. His books were a staple of my childhood, the TV series following suit and more recently the feature film reacquainting me with this wonderful bear and his antics.

So, thanks for the stories, Michael and thank you for Paddington Bear.

“They can’t,” said Jonathan. “The Dame is always played by a man.” “And the Principal Boy is always a girl,” agreed Judy. “It’s traditional.” “I don’t see why,” insisted Paddington.”

“Things are always happening to me. I’m that sort of bear.”

“If you really want something in this world,’ said Olga simply, ‘you’ll never get it by sitting down and waiting. But if you go out and do things there’s no knowing where you’ll end up.”

“A wise bear always keeps a marmalade sandwich in his hat in case of emergency”

“I’ll never be like other people, but that’s alright, because I’m a bear.”

“Long ago, people in England sent their children by train with labels around their necks, so they could be taken care of by complete strangers in the country side where it was safe. They will not have forgotten how to treat strangers.”

He may only be a bear, and a clumsy one at that; but he and his aunt Lucy are very clever indeed when it comes to quotes from Deepest, Darkest Peru.
