“Triumphant . . . Her use of historical detail and a truly adult love story confirm Gabaldon as a superior writer.”

NO MAJOR SPOILERS

I have been an avid reader since I was four-years-old. I am also the author of three non-fiction books, and I have one in the works. I love books. I love to read.

The Diana Gabaldon “Outlander” series of books is by far the best series of books I have ever had the pleasure to read.

Gabaldon’s characters jump off the page. Her carefully crafted descriptions of people and how they interact with each other and their surroundings completely draws in the reader. Gabaldon’s historical accuracy is perfect. She obviously does a tremendous amount of research.

I loved feeling as if I was learning about real events while enjoying the challenges and triumphs of wonderful characters. I just curled up on the sofa with a soft blanky and immersed myself in the lives of Jamie and Claire. I felt as if I were there. I felt their pain, their joy, and their love.

Don’t let the length of the books scare you. I devoured each one and was left craving more. I was so sad when I got to the end of the last book. Then, I discovered there was a TV series depicting my favorite book couple and their cohorts. It was bliss to see the book people brought to life in a different medium. The casting was impeccable. I can hardly wait for the next two books to come out.

I highly recommend the Outlander series.

NO MAJOR SPOILERS

It took my sister years to talk me into reading this series. I was sure I would not like time travel books. Was I ever wrong!?!

This is the first in the series and happens to be my favorite. The first sections are essential to the entire series. In other words you have to read them in order.

From the minute the hero and heroine meet, the chemistry is there. I fell in love with Jamie and he still is my favorite protagonist in ALL the books I have ever read. The essential part of Diana’s craft is her attention to detail.

It is intimidating to start the books because of the length, but it just flies by. By the end of each book, I’m ready for the next. I have read them more than once and that’s not typical of me.

There are currently eight books in the series and she is working on the ninth.

Give it a try. You won’t regret it!
