“A charming story that twists the lives of New Yorkers around a little black dress… It all works. Each scenario is revisited and broadened as the chapters unfurl… Rosen’s debut novel is rich in relationships, written with clarity and humor and surprise twists that bring the tale to a satisfying conclusion. A pure pleasure to read.”

NO MAJOR SPOILERS

This was a light enchanting sometimes hilarious story about a little black dress that has a bit of magic for those who come in contact with it. The fashion house for which it was designed and the pattern maker all fit into the story. It’s not only about the women who wear the dress but also able the men in their lives. Some characters have more history than others but each story is different and have a part in the telling of the tale.

I find it fascinating to take something like a dress and work a whole story around it. The dress begins being modeled on a runway show and becomes the cover for a fashion magazine. Bloomingdale’s in New York has the last small size and the dress travels from one lady to the next until the final story of the book. Really enjoyable and how the old gentleman who spent his entire life making clothes for women, just that right dress to make them feel beautiful was really heartfelt. I highly recommend as an enjoyable read, perhaps not great literature but then I don’t think every book needs to be.
