“Moyes is a romantic, and there is a gloriously happy ending, but the story is also surprising and genuinely moving.”

NO MAJOR SPOILERS

Thanks to Me Before You, Jojo Moyes is hot property and having read a few of her novels I’m thrilled with how diverse she is. Every book I’ve read so far has been completely different and Silver Bay is no different. Billed as an unashamed romance the book is set in ‘Silver Bay’ in Australia and features Liza McCullen and the property developer who ends up threatening the very peace she lives in.

Silver Bay has been undeveloped for years, a peaceful haven of whale watchers and a steady trickle of tourists, but all that is about to change as a complex is planned for the town. Liza is horrified by the plans but it’s here you start to learn there’s much more to her story than was originally thought.

What follows is a suspenseful novel, that belongs firmly in the romantic genre. It’s a well written, well woven tale with likeable, intricate characters. Will it stay with you always, will it change your life? Probably not, but it’s a lovely sweet feel good book with a nice happy ending, and there’s always room for fiction of that kind.

If you’ve only read Me Before You, Moyes’ other novels are well worth checking out. Of all that I’ve read, Silver Bay wasn’t my favourite, but it was an engaging tale with interesting characters.
