The Colgate Bookstore is the largest independent bookstore in Upstate NY, and we take great pride in bringing together all ages and backgrounds. Independent bookstores play important roles: weaving the community together, sharing knowledge and ideas, sparking interests and providing a respite from a fast paced, impersonal world.

We’re not what you’d expect from a University bookstore. Our staff not only serves our Colgate University students and staff, but we are also a fun place for the whole community. Yes, there are diploma frames and other normal college items available for students and alumni, but there’s so much more…

We are passionate about reading, and promoting literacy in our community. We proudly offer over 20,000 highly curated books and our resident book expert is always ready to find the perfect read for every customer. We also donate a percentage of all children’s and adult trade book sales generated by special events to our local library.

We offer fun and creative programs for community members, and their young children, such as events, book readings, and arts & crafts. We partner with a local animal shelter in a program called, “Reading with Rover”, where children who are timid about reading aloud can practice their reading skills on therapy dogs. Because, as we all know, dogs are great listeners!

We also have a large collection of games, toys and books in our Imagination Station. Our unique collection of games toys are all hand selected to inspire creativity and imagination.

Our newly added gift wing boasts an extensive collection of gifts, jewelry, loungewear and perfume. We were also excited to add a designer swimshop.

The Colgate Bookstore has been proudly serving it’s university and community in downtown Hamilton, NY for thirteen years.
