Under the Peppertree - Western Cape

This charming bookshop offers a peaceful option to the often frenetic R62 activity in Calitzdorp, port capital of South Africa.

Gary relocated from Johannesburg to the atmospheric and spiritual Karoo just over a year ago.  It was his dream to have a cafe bookshop.
He makes aromatic Thai curries, tea and cake, incredible home made ice cream and anything else he fancies.

And while you nibble, there is a wonderful selection of books to browse.  It is an eclectic collection, stocked up regularly from Johannesburg.

Art books feature prominently to nurture the artistic community, as well as fiction, non-fiction and anything you request!

The shop takes the name from the enormous pepper tree, where you can sit in the shade and read with your coffee.
