Harrogate Bookshop Has ‘Worst Day’ and Bibliophiles Come to the Rescue

By June 30, 2018Bookshops, News

An independent bookseller in Harrogate tweeted out about her worst day ever of sales in sheer desperation and bibliophiles have flocked to support the shop, inundating her with orders.

Georgia Duffy who owns the ImaginedThings bookshop in Harrogate tweeted that the bookshop had had its worst day ever, taking just £12.34 on Monday, but the tweet garnered support like she could never have imagined.

Since her plea on Monday more than one million people have clicked the tweet and over 5,000 people are talking about the bookshop, offering support in the form of online orders.

The shop opened last July becoming the first independent bookshop in Harrogate in nearly twenty years. Georgia Duffy says that since they opened they have faced some difficult periods, but the last couple of weeks had been especially hard.

She never expected the post to go viral and has now been inundated with so many orders she has a backlog and had to hurriedly set up Paypal to allow her to take online orders.

By Monday night ImaginedThings was struggling to process all the online orders received and thanked everyone for their support.

If you wish to support Harrogate’s only independent bookshop you can find them on Twitter or at Westminster Arcade on Parliament Street, Harrogate.
