The Minpins was the last children’s book by Roald Dahl published before the author’s death and was first published in 1991. Now it’s announced that the book is to be reissued with a new title and new illustrations.
Billy and the Minpins, a new title to reflect Dahl’s original name for the book will be published in hardback later this year and the book will come with brand new illustrations from Quentin Blake. It’ll be the first time the illustrator has illustrated a new Dahl hero in over 20 years, and fans are pretty excited!
The story tells the tale of Billy, who saves the Minpins from the Gruncher. The Minpins are tiny tree-dwelling people with children the size of matchsticks, and the book was first published in 1991 with illustrations by Patrick Benson. This version is still available today but the new version will be illustrated by Blake with 50 pages of black and white drawings showing all of Billy and the Minpin’s adventures and escapades.
It’s forty years since the partnership between Blake and Dahl began with the illustrating of the Enormous Crocodile, first published in 1978 and the illustrator is so tied in with the author that we have no doubt these new illustrations will bring both Billy and the Minpins to life once again for a new audience.
The new Billy and the Minpins is to be released on 7th September and while there’s no cover reveal just yet, you can pre-order the book now.
