The House Where Milne Wrote Winnie the Pooh is For Sale

“The House on Pooh Corner”

You could call it the house on Pooh Corner, but it’s more of a grand estate with 9.5 acres of land. It’s not quite the Hundred Acre Wood but if this picturesque cottage doesn’t leave you dreaming of Pooh there’s something wrong and if you have £1.9 million lying around, it could all be yours.

Cotchford Farm, where Alan Alexander Milne lived with his family and penned Winnie-the-Pooh, The House on Pooh Corner and his other classics, is on the market.

It’s a quintessentially English pile, 9.5 acres, the house dates from the mid 16th century and it has a long and decorated history. As well as being home to Milne and his family the house played host to evacuated families during World War II. More recently it was owned by Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones who died while living at the house in 1969.

However Milne is by far the most famous occupant of the house, along with his family, including his son Christopher Robin, and looking at it it’s easy to see why it inspired his writing. While the house doesn’t boast 10-acres, the fabled wood is based on Ashdown Forest nearby where you can head off on a self-guided Pooh walk today.

It’s a little out of my price range unfortunately, but if you do have a spare £2 million down the back of the sofa and you fancy living in the house on Pooh Corner, or taking a better look at the property it’s for sale with Savills now.
