One week today will be Christmas Day and that means we’re into our fginal week of the literary advent calendar. Every day of December we’ve given you a quote, snippet or poem from literature, each with a festive theme and today we have The Nutcracker by E.T.A Hoffman, and the magic of receiving gifts!
Many people go the ballet over Christmas to enjoy the adapted version of this Christmas tale, but today we’re peeking at the original book.
I ask you, the reader, to remember your most wonderful Christmas. Remember the beautiful, colorful presents and the lavishly decorated Christmas tree? You should be able to imagine how the children felt. With sparkling eyes the children were completely silenced for a while. Then Marie gave a deep sigh, and said “Oh how beautiful… Oh how nice!”
The popularity of the ballet may have outstripped the popularity of the original book, but we don’t know why because the Nutcracker is a magical Christmas story that brings Christmas to life from the pages!
With just a week to go, we don’t have too many entries left now in our advent calendar, but we’ll be back tomorrow with another quote, poem or snippet filled with Christmas joy!
