Ruth Bader Ginsburg Responds to Her Biggest Fan

8 year old Michele Threefoot was, along with her schoolmates, given the task of coming to school dressed as a superhero. Among the children dressed as Wonderwoman, Superman, and Hulk, was Michele dressed as Ruth Bader Ginsburg, her own superhero.

Michele’s mother, Krista (to whom we give credit for the images used) is understandably very proud of her little reading addict!

As a self-professed Hufflepuff, Michele places loyalty, kindness, and honesty above all else, so it is no wonder her hero was someone with integrity and class. Being able to dress as someone she admired so greatly was a wonderful experience for Michele, so imagine how she felt when the Notorious RBG responded?

The family were surprised and thrilled when Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s personal assistant contacted the family to say that RBG had seen the pictures and wanted to contact Michele. To be seen as someone’s hero is an incredible honour, and Ginsburg recognised this. Her position as a champion of girls and women, and equal treatment of all is well known.

Michele was inspired by her latest favourite read, “I Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes Her Mark”, a biographical picture book in which it shows Ginsburg’s remarkable life of arguments and disagreements as she fought for justice. This is the book that inspired Michele…

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was so touched by Michele’s dedication that she responded in writing… It reads “Dear Michele, You look just like me! May you continue to thrive on reading and learning, Every good wish, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.”

I don’t think Michele could have picked a better superhero than Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Michele’s mother Krista had said: “I would really to thank Justice Ginsburg for being such an inspiration to all of us, and for being so committed to fighting for equality. This wouldn’t have gone where it has if she weren’t such an admirable person. I also want to thank her for taking the time to make a little girl really, really happy.”

I think you Reading Addicts can agree that this was a wonderfully heartwarming story that attests to the power of reading!
