Emma Watson Launches Book Fairies Worldwide

By March 10, 2017Inspired by Literature, News

Emma Watson, best known for her Harry Potter fame, has become quite the ambassador for reading in recent years. Last year the actor started a feminist book club that has been quite a hit, and as part of that she collaborated with the Books on the Underground movement to leave feminist books on the London Underground and now that project has gone worldwide!

Book Fairies will operate in 26 countries and the books will be by strong feminist authors such as Maya Angelou and Caitlyn Moran. Each book will contain a hand written note from Watson, urging readers to enjoy the book and then leave it for others to find.

Here she announces the project in a tweet

And if you follow Emma on Twitter you’ll know that in the past couple of days she’s been out and about on Book Fairy duties.

All of the books are recommended by the actor’s feminist book club, Our Shared Shelf, and the hope is to get people reading again and to spread the love of reading with something akin to random acts of kindness.

Emma won’t be travelling the world leaving books everywhere, there’s a whole team of international book fairies on the mission, and all of them are excited and enthused about the project, and you can follow them here on Twitter.
