Carrie Fisher Posthumously Wins Grammy Award

The 60th annual Grammy Awards ceremony was hosted yesterday in New York and saw the likes of Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, and Foo Fighters all win big that night. Though she may be more well known for acting rather than music, Carrie Fisher was awarded the Grammy for Best Spoken Word album for her audiobook recording of The Princess Diarist, which is a memoir comprised of diary entries from when she was shooting the original Star Wars films.

The Princess Diarist was published in late 2016 and Carrie passed away after a heart attack whilst on tour promoting the release. The book was the topic of much conversation as it revealed an affair Fisher has with her co-star Harrison Ford.

As Entertainment Weekly reports, Fisher was up against some stiff competition for the Grammy. The other nominees were Neil deGrasse Tyson for Astrophysics For People in a Hurry, Bruce Springsteen for Born to Run, Shelly Peiken for Confessions of a Serial Songwriter, and Bernie Sanders (author) and Mark Ruffalo (narrator) for Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In.

This is the first Posthumous award Fisher has won since her death but it is not the first time she has been nominated for a Grammy. She was nominated in 2009 for her audiobook narration of her memoir Wishful Drinking. She was also recently nominated for an Emmy for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series.
