Submissions now open for Man Booker Prize 2017

By January 5, 2017Literary Awards, News

The Man Booker Prize for 2017 is now open for entries from Publishers. The literary prize is awarded annually by the Booker Prize Foundation to the author with the best eligible novel and has become one of the most respected literary prizes of all time.

Last year we saw Paul Beatty’s The Sellout win the Booker Prize, and publishers now have until Friday 10th March 2017 to submit novels for consideration for the 2017 prize. Any publishers who want to enter can do so here, on the Man Booker entry form, and rules.

The judges for the Man Booker change each year and this year Baroness Lola Young will head the judging panel, which includes artist Tom Phillips CBE EA, travel writer Colin Thubron CBE, Man Booker shortlisted novelist Sarah Hall, and literary critic Lila Azam Zanganeh. From the submitted novels, the judges will select ‘The Man Booker Dozen’, twelve books to be shortlisted for the prize.

Each of the shortlisted winners will receive £2,500 and a designer bound copy of his or her novel. The winning author will be announced later in the year, usually around 8 weeks after the shortlist is revealed, and will win a £50,000 prize and all the glory that comes with being the Man Booker Winner.

The 2016 Man Booker Prize encountered some controversy after the longlist was criticised for its lack of diversity and being top heavy with US authors. What critics will make of this year’s selections is yet to be seen, but we’ll be watching with interest and bringing you all the news on all the literary awards of the year throughout 2017.
