Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2018: Winner Announced

The Waterstones Children’s Book Prize is an annual prize awarding works of children’s literature published during the previous year. The award has been running since 2005 and the purpose of the prize is ‘to uncover hidden talent in children’s writing’, therefore the award is only open to authors who have published no more than three books.

The 2018 award has just been given and the Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize winner for 2018 is Angie Thomas for The Hate U Give. Written in the turbulent wake of police violence in North America, The Hate U Give revolves around Starr Carter, a teenager whose life is split between the affluent school she attends and the much poorer suburb that is her home.

The Hate U Give has been well received by critics and recommended for all ages even adults due to the message, offered with such beautiful writing. The book is the overall winner, and older fiction winner, other category winners are listed below:
