Stephen Fry to take Mythos on tour

This week, it was announced that the comedian, actor and writer, Stephen Fry is going on tour for the first time in 40 years, having last been on tour with his best friend and double act partner Hugh Laurie in the late 1980s.In November 2017, Fry published the first of his books retelling the greek myths, Mythos, which was followed by Heroes in November 2018. Stephen Fry’s latest tour is inspired by the Mythos trilogy and will begin on 19th August this year at the Edinburgh International Festival.

The tour, entitled ‘Mythos: A Trilogy – Gods. Heroes. Men’, will be a play of sorts which will be split into separate shows, Gods, Hereos, and Men. Each show will only be “Loosely scripted”, and the audience will help Stephen Fry choose which myth or tale to tell.

The first show, Gods will depict the rise of the Olympians, Zeus, Hera, Apollo, Athena and Hermes and the creation of the Greek Pantheon. The show, Heroes tells the tales of Perseus, Heracles and Theseus. While the final show, Men, explores the mythical tale of the Trojan War and Odysseus’s treacherous journey home.

The BBC reported that Stephen Fry said he was “shivering and quivering with excitement”. Also adding, “Three different shows over three different nights: people can come to one, two or three evenings, but whichever they choose I hope will be as exciting for them as I know it will be for me.”

After its first leg in Edinburgh, the tour will move on to Salford (The Lowry 30^th– 31st August) and then Liverpool (Philharmonic Hall 4^th – 6^th September), Birmingham (Symphony Hall 9^th – 12^th September), London (Palladium 13^th– 14^th September) , Oxford (New Theatre 19^th – 20^th September) and Gateshead (Sage 22^nd – 23^rd September), and tickets are on sale now.
