Adrian Edmondson to Publish Children’s Fiction Novel

Ade Edmondson is probably best known for his adult work, most notably alongside the late Rik Mayall in The Young Ones and Bottom. The actor has previously made a foray into writing and has several adult novels to his name, but now Puffin Books has confirmed that the author is penning a children’s fiction novel to be released in 2017.

Tilly and the Time Machine will be aimed at 8 to 12 year olds and is about a girl (Tilly) who lives with her inventor father. Edmondson says Tilly was inspired by his next door neighbour, and the fully illustrated work will be published in 2017.

Edmonson has chosen debut illustrator Danny Noble to illustrate the work after spotting the artist’s work on Twitter. It’s hoped that writer and illustrator will come together to create magical characters that will engage young readers.

There’s no doubting that Edmondson is a national treasure and creative genius. The author’s standalone adult novels are hilarious, and if he recreates the same magic in Tilly and the Time Machine, we could be looking at another strong children’s author in the making.

It’s thought that Edmondson will write at least two standalone novels, each featuring Tilly with the first published in April 2017. As yet no cover has been released by the author but artwork will be provided by illustrator Danny Noble. However, the children’s novel is already expected to be a best seller, with pre-orders already open in the UK.
