Eco-Friendly Author Left Outraged After Discovering His Anti-Plastic Book Is Packed in Plastic

By December 4, 2018New Releases

Earlier this year, British writer Martin Dorey published a book called No. More. Plastic.: What You Can Do to Make a Difference. The book examines the disastrous effects plastic waste is having on our planet and gives readers plenty of advice on how to reduce the amount of plastic waste they create.

Dorey was then stunned to find that copies of his book were being delivered by his American distributor wrapped in plastic. Dorey described the error as an “absolute shambles” and pointed out that it shows how we use plastic “with our eyes closed”.

On Instagram, Dorey pointed out the distributor’s mistake, writing: “So here’s my book. We toiled hard on this. We worked with the printer to make it one of the UK’s most environmental books this year.

“It’s an absolute shambles, undoes all our hard work and proves, once again, that we are using plastic with our eyes closed.

“We are sleep walking into oblivion, using plastic without thinking because it’s what we’ve been doing, it’s the way we do things.”

He added: “The thing is that EVERYTHING HAS TO CHANGE if we are to avoid f***ing it up for good. We have to reassess everything. Your reusable mug will not be good enough to save the world.

“We all have to do everything at every level to stop the stupid senseless use of plastic. I know my publishers are working hard to stop this in future but it still happens further down the line.”

Dorey is well known for his efforts to help the environment and, in 2009, he launched the 2 Minute Beach Clean campaign to try and encourage people to clean up plastic washed up on beach shores. His publisher, Peguin, has contacted the American distributor in order to fix the mistake. “We worked very hard to ensure our book was environmentally friendly at every stage of the book process,” said a Penguin spokesperson.
