‘Fear’ by Bob Woodward Has Sold Almost as Many Copies in a Week as ‘The Art of the Deal’ Has in 30 Years

Bob Woodward’s Fear is arguably the biggest book of 2018 and, despite being released only last week, has already sold over a million copies. It was reported that the book sold 750,000 copies in its first day of sales alone. Fear‘s publisher Simon & Schuster spoke to CNN on Tuesday and said it had sold more than 1.1 million copies, making it the fastest selling book in the company’s history. A tenth printing is currently on order which will push book sales up to 1.2 million copies sold.

As News Week reports, Trump’s The Art of the Deal was published in 1987 and has reportedly sold 1.1 million copies since then. The book was a hit upon release and became a best-seller. Trump’s rise to power has no doubt boosted sales of his book, but it seems Fear has managed to eclipse it, despite Trump calling it “fiction” and “made up.”

Fear paints the image of an administration that’s in a constant state of chaos. He claims that many of those working under Trump question his intelligence and fitness for office. Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson apparently referred to Trump as a “moron” and chief of staff John Kelly reportedly described his position as the “worst job” he’s ever held and referred to Trump as “unhinged.” Both have denied the quotes and the White House has claimed the book is inaccurate.

Woodward’s book follows one written by former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman, who states in her book Unhinged that Trump’s mental faculties have deteriorated. A similarly negative view on the Trump administration was detailed earlier this year in Michael Wolff’s Fire and Fury.
