As we look forward to a new year that promises to be filled with hours of reading we thought you might enjoy being introduced to some previously unpublished authors.
Here are five new authors whose novels are tipped to do well in the upcoming year.
The Butcher’s Hook – Janet Ellis
The name Janet Ellis is synonymous with Blue Peter to those of us who grew up in 1980s Great Britain. A children’s TV presenter she has finally put pen to paper and produced what promises to be a rather brilliant novel. The Butcher’s Hook is set in 18c London, our protagonist is Ann Jaccob, the only surviving child of a butcher and his ailing wife and she is determined to follow her own dreams, her own desires and choose her own husband, even if it means getting her hands dirty.

My Name is Leon – Kit de Waal
Leon is nine, Leon is a big brother, Leon loves his baby brother Jake, Jake is white, Leon is not.
A story about the casual cruelties of child welfare in eighties Britain, where the adopt-ability of a white baby means that a bi-racial 9 year old boy is left lost, alone and determined to get his baby brother back home and his family, no matter how damaged, back together again.
Due for release on July 12th 2016.
Anatomy of a Soldier – Harry Parker
Described as ‘a war story with a difference’ Anatomy of a soldier is the debut novel of veteran soldier Harry Parker. Called riveting, evocative, brutal this tale is told from the perspective not of the soldiers, the ‘enemy’, the civilians, or in fact anyone living at all; shoes and boots, a helmet, a trove of dollars, a drone, that bike, weaponry, a bag of fertilizer, a medal, a beer glass, a snowflake, dog tags, an improvised explosive device, these are the forty-five different inanimate narrators whose unexpected voices tell the story of this heart-stopping journey.

Akram’s War – Nadim Safdar
Growing up in a close knit Pakistani community in a Midland’s town Akram is subjected to the every day casual racism that many young Asian men suffer in this modern era of distrust and outright hatred. Is it this that radicalises him to the moment where he has a bomb strapped to his body and dreams of martyrdom in his head or just the cleverness of the radicals who have brought him to this point?
On his way to his and hopefully many infidels’ deaths Akram meets Angie; an addict, a woman with mental illness, a woman who has lost her only child. Can a broken woman mend a broken and disaffected man and in doing so save the lives of hundreds of innocents?

The Widow – Fiona Barton
Jean Taylor used to be the perfect wife, loyal and loving, refusing to believe her husband could be capable of anything other than loving her back. She stood by him when he was accused of the heinous crime of abducting a child. Her loyalty saved him from further questioning and if other, darker things happened around him, well that was jut coincidence wasn’t it?
Now her husband is dead, Jean no longer needs to be loyal, now she can tell the truth but Jean has discovered that she can tell her version of the truth and nobody questions. Which truth will she choose to tell now she has no reason to lie.

My Name is Leon has been pre ordered and The Butcher’s Hook and The Widow are both on my wish list. I’m hovering over the other two also but I don’t want to be greedy.
