Former National Security Advisor to President Trump Signs Book Deal With William Collins

By February 29, 2020New Releases, Political

US Army Lieutenant General H R McMaster, who served as President Donald Trump’s national security advisor, has signed a book deal with publisher William Collins that promises to be both “bold and provocative”. The book is set to be published on 28th April in the US and 7th May in the UK and will be titled Battlegrounds: The Fight for the Free World from Trump’s Former National Security Advisor.

As The Bookseller reports, the blurb reads: “Across multiple administrations since the end of the Cold War, American foreign policy has been misconceived, inconsistent, and poorly implemented. As a result, the West has fallen behind rivals in power and influence. Meanwhile, threats to security, freedom, and prosperity – from nuclear proliferation to jihadist terrorism – have grown.

“Drawing on 34 years of service in the US Army, including multiple tours of duty overseas and 13 months as national security advisor inside the Trump White House, McMaster has written a bold and provocative re-examination of the most serious foreign policy and national security challenges that face the United States, and consequently the world, today.”

McMaster served for just over a year in Trump’s administration and was the 26th Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, before he was replaced by John Bolton. He was a career soldier who served for 34 years before he retired last year.

Publishing director of William Collins, Arabella Pike, said of the book: “Battlegrounds offers a powerful call for all those who value democracy and freedom to transcend the vitriol of partisan politics and to concentrate instead on the most significant challenges to international security and prosperity for future generations. Drawing on his immense experience as a scholar, military commander and politician, and with America’s place in the world changing fast, H R McMaster has written a groundbreaking book.”
