Greta Gerwig’s Little Women gets a Sequel in Novel ‘Jo & Laurie’

Louisa May Alcott’s much-loved classic novel was back in the spotlight after the release of Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Little Women. The film received lots of attention after the film and its director were snubbed for awards at the Globes and the Oscars. However, many people were also talking about the ending of the film, which veers away from the writing of Louisa May Alcott to leave Jo March ambiguously single as the credit roll.

Now, a new novel called ‘Jo & Laurie’ by Margaret Stohl & Melissa De La Cruz promises to pick up the thread left by Greta Gerwig’s film and be the answer to your Little Women withdrawal symptoms. While Louisa May Alcott herself wrote several follow up books to Little Women including; Good Wives, Little Men: Life at Plumfield with Jo’s Boys, and Jo’s Boys and How They Turned Out, this new release will follow the path left by Gerwig’s film rather than that of the original novel.

Jo & Laurie will pick up just after the publication of Jo March’s novel, also entitled Little Women, and will as the title suggests, centres on Jo March and her childhood friend Theodore ‘Laurie’ Laurence. As the pair navigate adulthood, they are forced to assess their feelings for one another.

Whether you think Jo should have stayed single at the end of Little Women, married Friedrich Bhaer or whether you have always shipped Jo and Laurie together only to be disappointed by the Louis May Alcott’s ending, this might well be the book for you.

Will Jo and Laurie finally end up together or are they truly destined for a friendship only relationship? Find out what Margaret Stohl and Melissa de la Cruz decided in their novel Jo and Laurie, “A romantic retelling”, which publishes 2nd June and is available to pre-order now!
