How the Hell Did This Happen?: The Election of 2016

By December 4, 2016New Releases

P.J. O’Rourke political satirist, journalist, and diehard Republican has just announced his next book release and it is a doozy.

The author of titles such as “Parliament of Whores” and “Give War a Chance” has gone one better with his latest release How the Hell Did This Happen?: The Election of 2016 which looks at the events leading up to Donald Trump’s election as POTUS.

Due to be released on March 7th 2017 O’Rourke’s book came about almost accidentally as he had been covering the candidate selection and election race for various outlets when Morgan Entrekin O’Rourke’s Publisher suggested he write a book on the subject. “I was complaining I wasn’t getting anywhere on the book I was supposed to be doing because I was so busy writing about the campaign, and Morgan said, ‘Make that a book,” O’Rourke said when talking to Richard Johnson of Pagesix.com so that’s just what he did.

Adding 20,000 words to the 30,000 he had already written O’Rourke has produced a book that aims to answer the question “Should we laugh, or should we cry, or should we hurl?” O’Rourke said. “These options are not mutually exclusive.”

Fear not this is not simply an anti-Trump book and O’Rourke is not simply jumping on the bandwagon; this man is an equal opportunities satirist and all of America’s 2016 electoral candidates are subjected to his scathing wit labelling Scott Walker “America’s chance to have a president who gets carded every time he orders a beer,”
Bernie Sanders “Trump for people still living in their parents’ basements,”
Ted Cruz “crazy like a fox—no, like a Fox News broadcast”
and Donald Trump “Landlord of the Flies.”

Saying of his book “I knew it was going to be a good story. But I had no idea how bizarre it would get. I was wrong on every call for about two years.” And despite his own personal political affiliations it appears that O’Rourke is fairly pleased with how the election ended telling Johnson that “Anything that can make so many of the right people — or wrong people — cry into their herbal tea, makes me smile.”

How the Hell Did This Happen?: The Election of 2016 is available for pre order now.
