JK Rowling Announces Upcoming Book, The Christmas Pig

Fans of JK Rowling will be thrilled to hear the news that the author has written a new book for children, The Christmas Pig, and it will be released by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Hachette’s Children’s Group imprint later this year.

The new title will be published in hardbook, and eBook on 12th October, 2021 across the world simultaneously, though Scholastic will release the book in Canada and the US, and Audible will publish the audiobook.

The Christmas Pig is a standalone story and isn’t connect to any of Rowling’s previous work. The book is marketed as suitable for children aged 8 and over, and despite some controversy surrounding the author’s personal views, we think it’ll be the number 1 book this Christmas.

The 50,000 word book follows Rowling’s return to children’s publishing with last year’s fairytale, The Ickabog, serialised during lockdown and then published later in the year, with proceeds to charity. It’s synopsis reads “Jack loves his childhood toy, Dur Pig. DP has always been there for him, through good and bad. Until one Christmas Eve something terrible happens – DP is lost. But Christmas Eve is a night for miracles and lost causes, a night when all things can come to life… even toys. And Jack’s newest toy – the Christmas Pig (DP’s annoying replacement) – has a daring plan: together they’ll embark on a magical journey to seek something lost, and to save the best friend Jack has ever known…”

The new book will be published in hardback, with full colour jacket and decorative art inside from illustrator Jim Field. We’ll bring you a cover art reveal when that’s promised, in a few months.

If you’ll be buying it no matter what the cover art, pre-orders are already available. Reserve it at your local bookshop, or pre-order below.
