Oprah has made Becoming by Michelle Obama the latest edition to her book club.

Released November 2018, Michelle Obama’s memoir follows her life “from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address,” her publisher has said.

Oprah has chosen Michelle’s memoirs for her honesty and vulnerability- naming it the perfect read this year to gain an insight into what it was really like being the ‘first Black First family’.

Hear Oprah tell us why she has picked Becoming for her book club

“She just opens up herself; it’s so vulnerable. It is Michelle Obama’s personal story, of course, but I believe it’s going to spark within you the desire to think about your own becoming.” ~Oprah

This book sure is getting the buzz, I can’t imagine what is in it that we don’t already know, but I bet there is some really good commentary on how to keep a marriage working under stressful circumstances. Our club is reading another memoir right now by Ted Neill called Two Years of Wonder. This is not a a read for the faint of heart. His story of working with kids in Africa with HIV is enough to bring tears to your eyes. But his call for Social Justice is heard loud and clear and his bout with mental illness brings to light a whole other discussion needing to be had. It’s a phenomenal book.
