In October 2018, it was announced that Amazon had secured the rights to begin production on a series based on Robert Jordan’s fantasy book series The Wheel of Time, which is set to debut on the streaming service Amazon Prime. The books have a large following of fantasy fans and there are some very high hopes for this upcoming series. If you can’t wait to see the books brought to life then you’ll be interested to learn that Amazon has just announced the main cast for the anticipated show.

It was first announced that Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) will star as the series’ lead, and now several more cast members have been announced. Josha Stradowski will play the role of Rand al’Thor, Marcus Rutherford is Perrin Aybara, and Zoë Robins portrays Nynaeve. Barney Harris will appear as Mat Cauthon and Madeleine Madden will play the channeler Egwene Al’Vere.

The Wheel of Time tells the story of a fantasy world where only certain women are able to harness the power of magic. It follows Moiraine (Pike) as she begins a long and dangerous journey with five companions, one of whom is said to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save humanity or destroy it.

The upcoming Amazon series has been adapted by executive producer and showrunner Rafe Judkins, who previously worked on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hemlock Grove. Robert Jordan’s widow, Harriet McDougal, will serve as a consulting producer along with fantasy writer Brandon Sanderson. An exact release date is yet to be released but the show is expected to air next year.
