Andrew Cuomo’s book deal is said to be ‘sufficient reason’ for impeachment

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has been accused of committing a crime while writing his book American Crisis due for release on April 22.

The New York Post editorial board has called for an investigation after claims that the governor received help from top aides during the process of writing his book regarding the handling of the coronavirus pandemic and knowingly violated an ethics ruling.

“It’s now clear that top aides Melissa DeRosa and Stephanie Benton plus other staff assisted Cuomo with drafts of ‘American Crisis’ despite an ethics ruling that cleared the deal only if he didn’t use state resources to write it. That makes it a plain violation of state law,” the NY Post editorial board explained.

Senior Advisor Rich Azzopardi has defended the governor saying any involvement from the staffers was purely voluntary, however the editorial board claim a power imbalance was at play that would affect the staffers’ decisions.

“Cuomo flak catcher Rich Azzopardi claims that staffers acted voluntarily in helping the gov. Yet no one thinks that anyone in Cuomo World dares to tell the boss ‘no’,” they said.

It is claimed that Melissa DeRosa was working with the governor and publishers on the book while also trying to obstruct a Health Department report about deaths in nursing homes during the coronavirus pandemic in an attempt to protect the governor’s reputation.

A complaint was filed by the government-ethics watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) who alleged to the New York State Board of Elections that some of the governor’s campaign funds was also directed towards the book’s promotion.

“Clear proof of a single crime should be enough to move rapidly to get Cuomo out of office, before he can again betray the people of New York for his own selfish ends,” the editorial board said.
