Authors for Grenfell Tower Fire Charity Auction.

By June 20, 2017Authors, News

At around 1a.m. on the 14th of June, 2017, a fire broke out in a residential tower block in West London. It took hold quickly and spread to overwhelm the building.

The entire block of 120 flats in the building were destroyed, despite the efforts of the heroic fire service.

Survivors have lost their homes, and the deaths of the victims is still rising as bodies are slowly being identified.

Authors for Grenfell Tower is an online auction focussed on raising money for the British Red Cross London Fire Relief Fund, in honour of residents affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.

The website says:

“The charity has been asked by Kensington and Chelsea council to help co-ordinate fundraising in an appeal to support the residents and neighbours of the Grenfell Tower.

Money will be given to people affected by the fire, including those who have lost everything, to buy the things they need to give themselves and their families as much normality as they can get at this extraordinarily difficult time.

By donating to the London Fire Relief Fund people will be able to help those who have been injured, bereaved, left destitute or traumatised by this tragedy.”

Signed novels, cookbooks, personalised copies, first editions, and much, much more are offered by hundreds of authors who have been touched by the tragedy.

Among the generous hearts are Cecelia Ahern, Zainab Jagot Ahmed, Becky Albertalli, Judy Allen, Sarah Baker, Elijah Barns, Holly Bourne, and John Boyne. And that’s just a handful of the people involved!
