The moment I realized how big this Pokemon Go was going to be, we were already discussing how fantastic a literary version would be, and one bookshop is taking full advantage of the craze by luring customers in chasing Pokemon.
Pokemon Go looks like it’s going to be the craze of the decade and it’s rewriting the rules where gaming is concerned. Players of the app must find Pokemon in the augmented reality game, but they must go out into the real world to do so.
And Blackwell’s flagship Oxford bookshop is taking full advantage of the crazy by setting off lures in store and running a competition for the best in store screenshot on its social media platforms.
Blackwell’s are asking customers to send in their Pokemon store pictures on Twitter (@blackwellbooks) and Facebook and the best photo will win a copy of Pokemon: Deluxe Essential Handbook by Cris Silverstri. A book that promises everything you want to know about Pokemon.
It’s unlikely that Blackwell’s will be the only store taking advantage of the Pokemon Go craze either as many booksellers are setting off lures in store to tempt customers in. Just a few weeks into the game’s launch, some booksellers are reporting an upturn in sales as more people are leaving the house and so looking for reasons to go out instead of buying online.
