Cast for Netflix’s ‘Shadow and Bone’ Adaptation Announced

Those of you who enjoy a good fantasy book may be aware of Leigh Bardugo’s hit 2012 novel Shadow and Bone, which is the first entry in a series set in a fantasy land inspired by Russia. Fans of the book will no doubt be aware that Netflix is currently working on an adaptation of the series, but now the main cast has been revealed.

Bardugo took to Twitter to announce the show’s main cast, which consists of Jessie Mei Li, Archie Renaux, Ben Barnes, Amita Suman, Kit Young, and Freddy Carter. Fantasy fans may well be familar with Ben Barns, who played Prince Caspian in the Chronicles of Narnia movies. He will portray General Kirigan in Netflix’s show.

Jessie Mei Li will portray the book’s heroine, Alina Starkov, Archie Renaux will be Malyen Oretsev, Amita Suman is Inej Ghafa, Kit Young is Jesper Fahey, and Freddy Carter will take on the role of Kaz Brekker. Bardugo expressed her excitement, saying: “I am so thrilled to begin this adventure with this incredible cast.”

She went on to add: “I know you guys were hoping to see the full cast—this is just round one. More to come when we’re free to reveal it. Please be patient. And just to ease your pain: Nikolai is not in Season 1. Now let’s go celebrate because this magic is really happening.”

The first series will consist of eight episodes and filming has already begun in Budapest, Hungary. It is expected to air next year.
