Christopher Tolkien Steps down as Director of the Tolkien Estate

By November 17, 2017Literature, News

Christopher Tolkien, son of J.R.R. Tolkien has for many years worked as the director for the Tolkien estate, managing the literary giant that is the world of Middle-Earth. Christopher has edited and published many of his father’s unfinished works and has continued to tend to the world his father built. However, as theonering.net reports, at the age of 93, Christopher has announced that he is stepping down from his role.

For decades, Christopher has worked to continue evolving Middle-Earth and bringing to life his father’s stories, whilst also remaining true to the legacy his father built. With his stepping down, it will be interesting to see who takes charge of such a massive industry and how that will affect the future of Middle-Earth.

Christopher was greatly admired by fans for his dedication to his father’s work and was very careful before allowing third parties to use the property in things like films. We sincerely hope that, whoever picks up the reigns, will do so with the same respect Christopher did.

It was recently announced that Amazon has reached a deal with the Tolkien estate to produce a television series based on the franchise and it will be interesting to see how Christopher’s departure will effect the show.

Christopher Tolkien deserves a huge ‘thank you’ for preserving his father’s work with such dedication and passion and we hope he takes a well deserved rest!
