‘Enola Holmes’ Official Trailer Released by Netflix

By August 31, 2020Adaptations, News

As we reported earlier this year, Netflix has been working on a film based upon Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s legenedary detective Sherlock Holmes. However, instead of the famous sleuth taking the spotlight, the film will instead follow Enola Homes, who’s presented as the younger sister of both Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes. If you’re interested in joining the Holmes family for a good mystery, then you’ll want to check out the brand new trailer Netflix has just dropped.

Set to be released exclusively on Netflix on 23rd September, Enola Holmes stars Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown as the titular character, as well as Henry Cavill (Superman, The Witcher) as Sherlock Holmes, Sam Claflin (Peaky Blinders) as Mycroft Holmes, and Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter) as their missing mother, Mrs. Holmes. The film is based upon the novels written by Nancy Springer. The trailer’s description reads:

“When Enola Holmes—Sherlock’s teen sister—discovers her mother missing, she sets off to find her, becoming a super-sleuth in her own right as she outwits her famous brother and unravels a dangerous conspiracy around a mysterious young Lord. Starring Millie Bobby Brown, Sam Claflin, with Henry Cavill and Helena Bonham-Carter. Directed by Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag).”

The film certainly looks like a fun adventure, but it hasn’t been plain sailing behind the scenes. As we reported in July, the Conan Doyle estate has sued Netflix due to the fact their portrayal of Sherlock is ’emotional’. While the character of Sherlock Holmes is in the public domain, the last 10 books are still owned by the estate of Conan Doyle, who argue it wasn’t until the end of the series that the great detective started to become more sensitive, and thus they feel Netflix’s portrayal infringes upon their rights. The lawsuit also targets Nancy Springer’s books, as well as publisher Penguin Random House. At the time of writing the case is still ongoing, but here’s hoping Holmes fans everywhere can still enjoy the upcoming film regardless.
