Fantastic Beasts 3: Filming Starts Soon

By November 8, 2019Adaptations, News

Warner Bros. have given the greenlight for the production of the third Harry Potter spinoff film in the Fantastic Beasts series. Filming is due to begin in spring 2020 and this film will take the characters to a new setting.

The first film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was set in 1920s New York where we met American Witches and Wizards and learnt more about their ministry of magic. The second film in the series, Fantastic Beasts and the Crimes of Grindelwald moved to Paris, and the third film, the name of which has yet to be revealed, takes us to yet another new setting, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where will be perhaps learn more about the Maledictus, Nagini, the blood curse, and her jungle origins.

Fantastic Beasts 3 was due to start filming this year, however, the production needed more preparation time, which is unsurprising when you consider how quickly they turned around the production of Fantastic Beasts and the Crimes of Grindelwald.

The latest film in the Fantastic Beasts series will see the return of Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Jude Law as Albert Dumbledore, Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald, and Ezra Miller as Credence/Aurelius Dumbledore. Also returning is comedian and actor Jessica Williams who featured briefly in the previous film. Williams’ character Eulalie “Lally” Hicks, a teacher at Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (the American equivalent of Hogwarts), will play a larger role in the upcoming third film in the Fantastic Beasts series.

David Yates is directing the film alongside producers; David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves, Lionel Wigram and Tim Lewis, and executive producers; Neil Blair, Danny Cohen, Josh Berger and Courtenay Valenti. While the screenplay will be written by author J.K. Rowling herself alongside Steve Kloves.

Sadly, we’ll have to wait a while to watch the next part of the Fantastic Beasts story because the movie is not due to be released until 12th November 2021. Until then, we’ll be re-watching the first two and keeping close to any further news on the latest film from the wizarding world.
