Fantasy author Terry Goodkind, known for his long running fantasy series Sword of Truth has died aged 72. The news, that was confirmed by his agent today, reached the literary news after his passing yesterday (17th September).

Goodkind was born in 1948 and first established a career as a woodworker and artist before writing his first novel, Wizard’s First Rule, in 1994. That novel followed the life of protagonist Richard Cypher, a woodland guide in a magical world. Within the novel he learns that he is actually the sought after First Wizard, who has a destiny to save the entire world.

The story continued and spun out into the entire Sword of Truth series, which numbered 21 instalments. The most recent book in the series was Heart of Black Ice, published earlier this year and in 2019 he also launched a new series, The Children of D’Hara, set in the same world as the Sword of Truth. For that series he published five instalments between April 2019, and June 2020.

Goodkind’s agents posted this tribute on the author’s official Facebook page.
