The Folio Society is know for publishing beautiful, limited edition versions of classic books, all made from high quality materials that means they’ll look great on your shelf. If you’re a fan of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, then you’ll be intrigued to learn that Folio has just announced a very exclusive publication of the series’ first book A Game of Thrones.

Folio stated it “Worked closely throughout the entire process” with Martin, and this beautiful edition of the first novel includes a detailed map, family trees, and even secret artwork. Martin selected British illustrator Jonathan Burton to bring to life some of the iconic scenes from the books in the form of beautiful illustrations.

Exclusive to Folio, this special edition of A Game of Thrones will come in two volumes which will span 824 pages. Each book is bound in three-quarter blocked cloth with a printed and blocked cloth front board. Printed in black and gold throughout. Nine family trees are found in volume two, and the first features a fold-out map inserted in the case of the Known World. The two volumes come in a gold-blocked slipcase with a hidden illustration inside.

As the first Game of Thrones novel to be released by Folio, Martin has had the final say in all stages of the book’s creation, from the choice of illustrator to the materials used. Martin has himself described the two books as “masterpieces of the bookmaker’s art.”

Marin said of the new edition: “The Folio Society’s splendid new editions of the Song of Ice and Fire series are masterpieces of the bookmaker’s art lavishly illustrated by Jonathan Burton. Books collectors and fantasy fans alike are going to delight in these volumes. I know I will.”

Folio seems equally thrilled to be working with Martin. Tom Walker, publishing director at The Folio Society, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be publishing the Song of Ice and Fire series. They are undoubtedly the great modern masterpieces of the fantasy genre, and creating an edition to match that epic status has been a fabulous challenge.”

If you like the look of this gorgeous edition of A Game of Thrones, then you’ll want to snatch one up quick. The two-part book is available to pre-order now for £125 and is set to be released on July 16.
