Generous footballer and children’s champion has launched a kids’ book club

British footballer and champion for children and families, Marcus Rashford, has pledged to start a book club for kids.

After hard work and eventual success of his campaign to provide free meals for children from struggling families,, Marcus Rashford has launched a book club to help children experience the escapism of reading.

Macmillan Children’s Books (MCB) joined Rashford in the scheme to promote literacy to children across all socio-economic backgrounds.

Rashford expressed how he wished he had been given the chance to read as a child but due to financial struggles, his family had had to prioritise food over books.

MCB explained that all children will be included but there will be a primary focus on providing books to those from under-privileged backgrounds.

YOU ARE A CHAMPION: Unlock Your Potential, Find Your Voice And Be The BEST You Can Be will be the first title provided. The title is an illustrated non-fiction for 11 to 16-year-olds, and is planned for publishing in May 2021.

Fellow sports-types will join Marcus in providing the books- Carl Anka, a journalist for The Athletic and Katie Warriner, a performance psychologist, will co-create the first book.  Each chapter of the title will begin with a snippet from Rashford’s own life, and will look at the true value of positivity, education, female role models, and culture.

Two more titles have been also planned to add to the scheme the following year.
