Harry Potter and the Cursed Speed Reader

I consider myself to be a very fast reader, something I always lament when reading something I’ve been waiting for for absolutely ages. I promise myself every time I will savour the book, but I usually end up reading it in around 10-12 hours, which is nothing on Toby L’Estrange who intends of being the first reviewer of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Toby L’Estrange is just 10 years old, so he doesn’t yet know if he’ll get his letter from Hogwarts, but one gift he has already received, is the art of speed reading from his grandmother. The avid Harry Potter fan from Wheathamstead in Hertfordhsire in the UK is a child speed-reading prodigy and has been challenged by Amazon to be the first to post his critique of the eighth volume of the Harry Potter story when it’s released on Sunday.

Toby can read around 1,000 words a minute, that’s an average 400-page book in under two hours, and that puts my devouring well and truly to shame. It’s an astonishing gift, a technique taught to him by his speed reading expert grandmother, Susan Norman and one he intends on using when Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is delivered to his Kindle.

Toby had read all the Harry Potter books by the time he was eight, and knows lots of the spells. He promises his review won’t give away any spoilers, and is intending on going to bed early and then waking at midnight to start the book.

While you may not be intending on reading it quite so quickly, if you do read it and would like to write your own review, then we’d love to receive it!

Pre-orders are available until release, and the countdown is almost over.
