It was recently announced that director Denis Villeneuve is helming a film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel Dune. Over the past few months, several great actors including Timothee Chalamet, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, and Oscar Issac, and Javier Bardam, and Josh Brolin. As if that line-up wasn’t star studded enough, Jason Momoa has now been cast.

Jason Momoa, who hit the big time when he portrayed Khal Drogo in HBO’s TV adaptation of Game of Thrones, recently portrayed the DC superhero Aquaman last year. The beefy actor’s career seems to be only soaring higher with the news that he’s been cast in this eagerly anticipated film. The Hawaiian actor will be playing the part of Duncan Idaho, a key player in Herbert’s novel who serves as the swordmaster to House Atreides. Standing at 6ft 4 inches, Momoa certainly has the presence to play a weapons expert.

A release date for Villeneuve’s Dune film is yet to be announced but it is expected to hit screens either late this year or early next. Frank Herbert’s son, Brian Herbert, reported that the film will apparently cover the first half of Dune, with a second instalment no doubt planned. Villeneuve’s previous films have been very well received by critics and he has proven to be extremely capable when it comes to the sci-fi genre with movies such as Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival. Fans of Herbert’s books are no doubt eagerly awaiting more news on the Dune film and we’ll be sure to keep you updated as it comes.
